Wizards of the Coast teams announce intent to unionize

The Dungeons & Dragons and Studio X teams at Wizards of the Coast have announced their intent to unionize with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). These units seek to join the existing United Wizards of the Coast-CWA union, which was established earlier this year by the Magic: The Gathering Arena team.

A primary demand of the new unionization effort is the implementation of a robust and enforceable policy regarding generative AI. Workers have expressed concerns that leadership at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast has pushed for the adoption of Large Language Models (LLMs) despite team opposition. The union is seeking to ensure that games remain products of human creativity.

Additionally, the employees are demanding full ownership of intellectual property created outside of work hours and using personal resources. They are calling for voluntary recognition by company leadership by October 13, 2026. If recognition is not granted, the workers have indicated they will pursue an election through the National Labor Relations Board.
