Wizz Air expands European operations and passenger numbers
Wizz Air is marking significant operational milestones across its European network. In Bulgaria, the airline is celebrating 21 years of operations, having transported over 34 million passengers since 2005. The carrier currently operates at four Bulgarian airports—Sofia, Varna, Burgas, and Plovdiv—with bases in Sofia and Varna. Looking ahead to 2026, the airline expects to offer over 5 million seats from Bulgaria, representing a 46.5% increase compared to 2025.
In Spain, Wizz Air reported a record summer season, transporting 3.8 million passengers, a 51% increase over the previous year. This growth was driven by expanded routes from cities including Madrid, Valencia, Málaga, and Bilbao to destinations such as London, Milan, and Rome. Despite these regional successes, the airline announced a 5% reduction in international capacity for the second half of the year, citing geopolitical insecurity and rising fuel costs.
