Wizz Air expands Middle East routes to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah

Wizz Air is expanding its Middle East operations for the winter season, resuming flights to Jeddah, Amman, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. The airline plans to gradually reopen 12 routes and 49 weekly connections to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, providing approximately 470,000 seats.

In Italy, the expansion includes the resumption of flights from Rome and Milan to Jeddah. The airline noted that these decisions follow updated safety recommendations from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regarding conflict zones in the region, alongside internal operational and security assessments.

Industry experts suggest that Wizz Air’s return to the UAE market could exert downward pressure on economy airfares. Travel analysts estimate that competition from the ultra-low-cost carrier could lead to a 10% to 20% reduction in prices on specific routes where it competes directly, particularly benefiting price-sensitive leisure travelers during off-peak periods.
