Europe air travel disrupted by series of bomb threats

A wave of bomb threats targeting multiple commercial flights across Europe caused significant aviation disruptions on November 2 and 3, 2026. At least seven flights were affected, involving airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), and LOT Polish Airlines.

In Poland, a LOT Polish Airlines flight from London Heathrow was diverted to Warsaw Modlin airport, while an SAS flight from Copenhagen landed at Warsaw Chopin airport for inspections. In Spain, a Ryanair flight from Manchester made an emergency landing in Murcia, prompting the activation of security protocols and the deployment of bomb disposal units.

In Italy, two Ryanair flights traveling to Rome from Lisbon and Dublin were subject to security checks, with one flight receiving a military escort from Italian Eurofighter jets. Bulgaria also reported two threats involving flights arriving in Sofia from Bergamo and Dublin.

In all reported cases, security teams and specialized units conducted thorough searches of the aircraft, passengers, and luggage. No explosives or suspicious items were found, and all affected aircraft landed safely. Authorities have not yet identified a perpetrator or confirmed if the incidents are part of a coordinated effort.
