Wizz Air flight diverted to Venice after drunken passenger incident
A Wizz Air flight that departed Rome for Danzig was forced to make an emergency landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport after a passenger became increasingly aggressive while intoxicated. The crew issued repeated warnings, but the passenger continued drinking from bottles in his hand luggage, prompting the commander to divert for safety.
Upon landing, border police removed the passenger and his companion, who chose not to continue the journey. The man was charged with public service interruption and fined under Italy's criminal code. Wizz Air, which enforces a zero‑tolerance policy for disruptive passengers, may seek compensation for the costs incurred by the diversion, with potential claims ranging from €15,000 to tens of thousands of euros.
