Wizz Air launches direct flights to Yerevan, boosting tourism

Wizz Air began operating a direct low‑cost route from London to Yerevan on 12 June, making Armenia’s capital far more accessible for budget travelers. The airline’s managing director, Yvonne Moynihan, said the service aims to help customers explore beyond the obvious, highlighting Yerevan’s rich history and cultural attractions.

Yerevan, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, is famed for its pink‑stone architecture and the vibrant Republic Square, where illuminated dancing fountains perform each evening in summer. Designed in the 1920s by architect Alexander Tamanian, the square houses government ministries, the National Gallery and the History Museum. The city’s population of about 1.1 million blends Soviet‑era vehicles with modern cars, offering visitors a mix of historic charm and contemporary life.

The new direct flight is expected to increase tourism to the “Pink City,” encouraging more visitors to experience its museums, galleries, and lively street life.
