Wizz Air offers voluntary departure packages to UK pilots

Wizz Air has offered first officers based at its London Luton hub the opportunity to leave the company voluntarily in exchange for financial compensation packages. The airline cited rising kerosene costs, reduced winter flight capacity, and geopolitical uncertainty as primary drivers for the move, stating the decision is necessary to ensure long-term financial sustainability and competitiveness.

The proposed compensation package includes statutory redundancy pay, an additional payment equivalent to two weeks of salary, and payment in lieu of notice. The British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) confirmed the offer and stated it is advising members while remaining open to constructive dialogue with the carrier.

Interested employees were asked to submit applications by October 23, with final decisions expected by October 27. Departures are scheduled to take place on November 1.
