Wizz Air adds direct Modlin‑Santiago route and opens Galicia base with ten new Spanish connections

Wizz Air announced a new direct flight from Warsaw‑Modlin Airport to Santiago de Compostela, scheduled to start on 1 December 2026. The service will operate twice weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays) and is aimed at the growing number of Polish pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, a market that has seen bookings rise by about 60 % in 2026. The airline expects the route to simplify travel for thousands of pilgrims and tourists, eliminating the need for transfers in hubs such as Amsterdam or Frankfurt.

In parallel, Wizz Air is establishing an operational base at Santiago de Compostela Airport in Galicia, Spain. From 1 February 2027 the carrier will launch ten new routes from the base, including flights to Rome, Warsaw, Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Málaga, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Zaragoza, adding roughly 900 000 seats between October 2026 and October 2027. The expansion is intended to fill the gap left by Ryanair’s withdrawal from the Lavacolla and Vigo airports earlier in 2026. Local officials in Galicia have warned that the new routes may duplicate existing services and strain airport coordination, but the airline views the base as a strategic foothold in the region.
