Wizz Air pilot loses consciousness during flight to Gdańsk
A Wizz Air Malta flight from Gothenburg to Gdańsk experienced a medical emergency on October 9, 2026, when the co-pilot lost consciousness due to sudden gastrointestinal issues. The captain declared a ‘MAYDAY’ signal as the aircraft, an Airbus A321-200N, was approximately 80 kilometers from its destination.
To assist with flight operations, a member of the cabin crew took a seat in the cockpit to support the captain. The aircraft landed safely in Gdańsk about half an hour later, and the incapacitated pilot was transported to a hospital. The State Commission for Aircraft Accident Investigation has launched an inquiry into the incident, which has been officially classified as a serious occurrence.
