Wizz Air prepares for long-term geopolitical instability

Wizz Air CEO József Váradi has announced that the airline is preparing for prolonged geopolitical instability, suggesting that major conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East may not see a turning point until late 2027 or early 2028.

Addressing industry-wide challenges including disrupted supply chains and manufacturing difficulties at companies like Boeing, Váradi emphasized that Wizz Air is leveraging specific strategic advantages to maintain competitiveness. These include a liquidity ratio of 35 percent—significantly higher than the 20 percent average among European peers—and a 2.2 billion euro liquidity reserve.

The airline has also secured 82 percent of its fuel requirements for the next six months at favorable prices. Additionally, the company is focusing on fleet efficiency, noting that three-quarters of its fleet consists of Airbus A321neo aircraft, which are 18 to 20 percent more efficient than previous generations.
