Wizz Air to equip entire fleet with Starlink satellite internet from 2027

Hungarian ultra‑low‑cost carrier Wizz Air announced that it will install Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet on all of its aircraft starting in 2027, becoming the first European ULCC to offer the service. The airline said the rollout will begin with its new‑generation A320/A321 planes and will provide passengers with high‑speed, low‑latency connectivity throughout the flight.

Wizz Air did not disclose the financial terms of the partnership with SpaceX, and it has not confirmed whether the service will be free or offered for a fee. Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin said the move is intended to ensure customers “do not have to choose between affordable fares and reliable onboard internet.” The announcement coincides with SpaceX’s preparation for a Starlink IPO and follows similar deals with U.S. carriers such as American, United and Southwest. Rival low‑cost airlines Ryanair and easyJet have warned about the potential costs, with Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary estimating a possible $250 million annual expense for Starlink. Wizz Air, which reported 26% passenger growth in May and expects to break even for its 2026 financial year, sees the upgrade as a way to enhance its value proposition while maintaining low fares.
