Wizz Air to open new base at Santiago de Compostela airport in 2027

Wizz Air announced it will establish a permanent base at Santiago de Compostela Airport on 1 February 2027. The base will house an A321neo aircraft and support seven new routes – five domestic and two international – raising the number of destinations served from Santiago to ten and targeting roughly one million seats per year.

The move is part of the carrier's broader expansion in Spain, following bases opened in Madrid and Valencia, and is expected to increase tourism options, airport traffic and create local employment opportunities. Earlier this year the airline had explored a Vigo‑London service but the route was not launched due to a lack of financial support from local authorities. Wizz Air’s route director Samuel Ferrera said the airline is not discarding any future options for Galicia’s airports, while Aena’s market director Ignacio Biosca highlighted the potential for broader regional connectivity.
