WJSN’s Dayoung discusses childhood financial hardships

Dayoung, a member of the K-pop group WJSN, shared details regarding her difficult childhood during an appearance on the MBC program ‘The Song That Helped Me Endure Today: Playlist 109’ on August 18.

She revealed that her biological parents divorced when she was seven years old, leaving her mother to manage tens of billions of won in debt that had been left in her name by Dayoung’s biological father. Dayoung described the experience as feeling like she ‘suddenly became an adult’ at a very young age.

To support the family, Dayoung assisted her mother at her mother’s eel restaurant after school. She noted that her mother worked multiple jobs, including early morning shifts and evening work, to manage the financial burden. Dayoung cited her mother’s resilience and positive attitude as a primary influence on her own determination to succeed.
