WK Kellogg to remove artificial dyes from all cereals by year-end

WK Kellogg has announced it will remove all artificial colors and the synthetic preservative BHT from its cereal products by the end of this year. This decision accelerates the company's previous timeline, which had aimed for completion by the end of 2027.

To maintain the visual appearance of brands like Froot Loops and Apple Jacks, the Michigan-based company has developed formulations using fruit and vegetable-based juices. The company also confirmed significant investments in specialized infrastructure and equipment to facilitate this transition.

The move follows years of sustained pressure from consumer advocacy groups, including petitions with 400,000 signatures, and shifts in retail policy from major vendors like Target and Walmart. Additionally, the company's timeline has been influenced by the 'Make America Healthy Again' (MAHA) agenda and advocacy from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has pushed for the removal of petroleum-based dyes.
