Wöllersdorf junction safety upgrades nearing completion
The safety upgrade of the Wöllersdorf junction, connecting the A2 motorway and the B21 road, is nearing completion. Major construction work was carried out during the summer holidays to ensure the new traffic management system is operational by the start of the school year.
The joint project between NÖ Straßendienst and ASFINAG involved constructing bypasses at two roundabouts, renovating and partially widening connection ramps, and renewing approximately 18,000 square meters of road surface on the B21. Work at the Fischaberg intersection was also completed on or ahead of schedule.
A new intelligent traffic light system has been implemented to enhance safety. This system is designed to prevent dangerous traffic jams on the A2 by briefly halting traffic on the B21 if congestion occurs on the exit ramps, allowing vehicles to enter roundabouts in an orderly manner.
