The WNBA reviewed the incident and suspended Brondello for one game without pay, stating that coaches and personnel must uphold the highest standards of professionalism and respect.

Angel Reese accepted the apology, saying, “First, I appreciate Sandy’s apology, but I also appreciate the love and support … There is no place for discrimination or hate in this league.” Atlanta Dream head coach Karl Smesko also commented that the league’s action was appropriate.
