Paige Bueckers targeted with Taser during Arike Ogunbowale arrest

Newly released police bodycam footage has provided a detailed look at a tense confrontation involving WNBA players during the arrest of Arike Ogunbowale in Miami on March 5. The incident occurred outside the E11EVEN nightclub while the group was celebrating Ogunbowale’s championship victory in the Unrivaled women’s basketball league.

According to police reports, Ogunbowale was accused of striking a security guard in the face with a closed fist. As officers attempted to take her into custody, the situation escalated when several teammates and associates, including Paige Bueckers, Jackie Young, and DiJonai Carrington, intervened to plead with police. The footage shows an officer pointing a Taser at Bueckers’ face and toward other members of the group as they were ordered to back away.

Ogunbowale was initially charged with misdemeanor battery and released on $1,000 bail. However, the charges were dropped in May after the alleged victim failed to appear in court. Attorney Mitch Schuster stated that the State Attorney’s Office exercised discretion in the matter, noting Ogunbowale’s outstanding character.
