WNBA to Launch Centralized Replay Center in 2027

The Women's National Basketball Association announced that a centralized replay center will be opened for the 2027 season. The hub will be housed in the NBA’s Secaucus, New Jersey facility and will give on‑court officials access to multiple camera angles and real‑time guidance. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert revealed the plan during the All‑Star press conference, calling it “one of the most significant investments” in the league’s basketball operations and noting the cost runs in the tens of millions of dollars. The league has also created an officiating task force to curb physical play after a June incident in which Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas struck Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark’s throat, resulting in a one‑game suspension for Thomas. The same meeting addressed the ongoing online‑harassment crisis, with the players’ union discussing racism, misogyny and other threats. An independent investigation into a Las Vegas Aces sponsorship was concluded with no discipline, as the league said there was insufficient evidence of a salary‑cap violation. Details of the replay center’s technology and whether a “Last Two‑Minute Report” will be used remain to be finalized.
