Włodawa County farmers harvest pumpkin seeds for industry
Farmers in the Włodawa County region, particularly around Zaświatyc, Lack, and Różanka, are currently harvesting specialized pumpkin varieties grown specifically for their seeds. Unlike pumpkins intended for decoration, these crops are cultivated for the food and oil industries.
Successful production requires careful selection of varieties, precise harvest timing, and rigorous post-harvest processing, including separating, cleaning, and drying the seeds. The quality of the seeds, including moisture levels and cleanliness, directly impacts market pricing. Currently, dry seed prices average between 12 and 15 PLN per kilogram. Under favorable conditions, farmers can yield approximately 1.2 to 1.4 tons of dry seeds per hectare.
