Włodzimierz Czarzasty urges President to accept judge's oath
Polish Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty has called on President Karol Nawrocki to fulfill his constitutional duties by accepting the oath of Maciej Berek, a judge recently elected to the Constitutional Tribunal. Czarzasty stated that the President is obligated to facilitate the oath-taking, noting that the legal formula allows for the oath to be taken in the President's presence or otherwise, as long as it is performed toward the office.
The dispute follows a previous incident where President Nawrocki only invited two out of six elected judges to take their oaths, forcing the remaining four to swear in before the Sejm. Czarzasty criticized this previous action as “unserious, unstate-like, and in my opinion inconsistent with the Polish national interest.”
Maciej Berek has formally requested the President's office to provide a time and location for the ceremony. Berek noted that his term was scheduled to begin on September 16 and warned that a failure to facilitate the oath could be misinterpreted as a resignation from the position.
