Regional housing developments advance in Netherlands and Belgium

Various municipalities in the Netherlands and Belgium are advancing significant residential and urban development projects.

In Zwolle, the municipal executive has established a spatial development plan for the Meeuwenlaan area in Kamperpoort. The project aims to transform an office strip into a green urban neighborhood featuring between 530 and 552 homes, with options for more mid-market housing.

Roosendaal has approved a housing program targeting the construction of approximately 10,500 homes by 2040. At least 30 percent of these units are designated for social rent, with a major focus on the Spoorzone area which is expected to accommodate 4,400 homes.

In Heiloo, the municipality is moving forward with the Zandzoom housing plan and an A9 motorway connection, despite provincial warnings regarding nitrogen levels and electricity grid capacity.

In Belgium, construction is set to begin on September 7 for 26 social rental apartments at the Blekerijsite in Torhout. Managed by Thuiswest, the project is expected to be completed by spring 2028 and will include a public city garden.
