Woerden and Stadskanaal adopt coalition accords focusing on housing growth and sustainability

The new coalition agreement in Woerden (NL) sets a four‑year agenda that prioritises responsible expansion, accelerating housing construction for starters, seniors and young families, and strengthening the municipality’s financial footing. The plan stresses a realistic energy transition, promoting insulation, rooftop solar and a limited rollout of wind turbines, while exploring the feasibility of a Small Modular Reactor. Economic measures include adding 12 ha of business land, modernising existing industrial zones, and deepening cooperation between schools and enterprises through the TechnoHub.

In Stadskanaal (NL), the coalition of Lokaal Betrokken, CDA, PRO and VVD presents a programme aimed at a more visible government and a target of at least 450 new homes over the next four years, with a minimum of 30 % designated as social rental. The agreement also outlines renovations for school facilities and municipal buildings, and pledges to make the town the most entrepreneur‑friendly municipality in the country by revitalising retail spaces and supporting small‑business growth.
