Wojciech Szczęsny has reflected on his professional football career following FC Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. Marking exactly two years since his initial announcement to retire from professional football, the Polish goalkeeper noted the unexpected turn his career has taken.

Szczęsny joined Barcelona in October 2024 following a serious injury to Marc-André ter Stegen. During his first season, he made 30 appearances and contributed to the club winning the Spanish league title, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

In his second season, his role has transitioned to a backup goalkeeper, providing support to Joan Garcia and Dominik Livaković. Despite the change in playing time, Szczęsny has emphasized his value as an experienced presence within the locker room, helping to mentor younger players.
