Wokha youth organize angling competition to promote entrepreneurship
A group of educated unemployed youth in Wokha organized an angling competition titled “Exciting Day of Fishing” at Z Lotha Fisheries in Ekokju Village on Saturday. The event aimed to promote recreational fishing, community engagement, and potential entrepreneurial opportunities for livelihood within the region.
Winners of the competition included Pipen Erui, who took first place with a cash prize of Rs 50,000, followed by Shanpemo Kithan in second with Rs 25,000, and Aben Murry in third with Rs 10,000. The competition operated under a “one person, one rod” rule. Additional prizes were awarded for the biggest and first catches, along with several consolation prizes.
The second prize was sponsored by NSCN (R) president Akato Chophy to support youth initiatives. Organizers noted that the event highlights the growing interest in angling in Nagaland, leveraging the state's abundant water resources and aquatic life to encourage self-employment and sustainable recreational ventures.
