Wolaba Parade celebrates Afro-descendant heritage in Limón
The annual Wolaba Parade recently took place on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast in Limón, serving as a cultural showcase for the region’s Afro-descendant heritage. The event featured calypso rhythms and traditional dances, with students from the Escuela Río Negro in Cocles providing a central performance.
Beyond the cultural celebration, the parade involves complex regulatory requirements. Legal expert Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas of Bufete de Costa Rica noted that organizers must manage municipal permits, public safety protocols, and intellectual property rights related to traditional cultural expressions to ensure sustainable local tourism and heritage protection.
