Wolf encounter in North Jutland sparks public concern

An encounter between a runner and a wolf protecting its pup at Bunken Klitplantage in North Jutland has sparked concern among residents in the Frederikshavn Municipality. While experts from Aarhus University and the Natural History Museum Aarhus state the wolf's behavior—showing teeth and raising its hackles—was a natural way to protect its offspring and not a direct danger, authorities have recommended that citizens avoid the specific area until investigations are complete.

Minister for Nature and Animal Welfare Christian Rabjerg Madsen has announced plans to seek international expert opinions to analyze the unprecedented behavior. Meanwhile, Kent Olsen, a scientific chief at the Natural History Museum Aarhus, noted that Denmark's wolf population is growing more slowly than biological potential suggests. He attributed this slower growth to suspected illegal hunting and human-caused mortality, despite sufficient habitats and prey availability.
