Wolf presence and coexistence initiatives in Denmark

In Denmark, efforts to promote coexistence with the returning wolf population are being highlighted through both educational programs and community demonstrations. The Natural History Museum in Aarhus is hosting autumn holiday activities where children can learn about wolf monitoring, including how researchers use DNA from scat and wildlife camera footage to track the population. As of late 2025, the national wolf monitoring program estimated there were approximately 49 wolves in the country.

Simultaneously, the association ‘Foreningen Ulvens og Naturens Vogtere’ is organizing a peaceful demonstration titled ‘Lys for ulvene’ (Light for the Wolves). Organizers have clarified that the event is not ‘wolf tourism’ but a quiet marking of coexistence. They emphasized that participants will remain on public, well-traveled paths in outer zones to avoid core breeding or rendezvous areas, and will use only battery-operated LED lights to comply with nature protection laws regarding open flames.
