Wolf released with radio collar near Noicattaro

A female wolf captured near Noicattaro and Torre a Mare has been released back into the wild equipped with a radio collar. The animal was studied at the Bitetto wildlife center, where it underwent medical and genetic testing.

While tests ruled out this specific wolf as the individual responsible for child attacks in August, experts cannot exclude its membership in the local pack that has been active in the Bari area. The radio collar will allow researchers to monitor its movements and activity areas to determine if the wolf remains in the surrounding countryside or moves into larger populated zones. This data will assist the regional task force in developing an extraordinary wolf management plan for the Puglia region.
