Presence is confirmed via DNA testing of tracks, with settlement defined as a wolf remaining in the same area for six months.

In Kalmthout, social media reports of a wolf have prompted local police and partner organizations to monitor the situation. Authorities emphasize that there is currently no cause for alarm and advise the public to maintain distance, keep dogs on leashes, and avoid approaching or feeding the animals.

To mitigate risks to livestock, officials recommend that farmers implement preventive measures, such as wolf-proof fencing. In Overijssel, subsidies are available to assist with these protective measures.
