Wolfgang Bahro Envisions Jo Gerner’s Dramatic Exit from GZSZ

Wolfgang Bahro, the 65‑year‑old actor who has portrayed lawyer Jo Gerner on RTL’s German soap Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten (GZSZ) since 1993, discussed a possible farewell for the character in the podcast “dreißig”. He described a scenario in which Gerner is on a yacht that is attacked and sinks, leading viewers to believe he has drowned, only for a submarine to surface and reveal him alive.

Bahro said a career end is not currently on the agenda and he has no immediate plans to leave the series. He noted that fans strongly associate the show with Gerner, and that producers have expressed doubts about GZSZ’s future without the character, though no departure is imminent.
