Wolfgang Kubicki’s FDP Leadership Faces Low Public Confidence in Poll

A ZDF‑Politbarometer poll shows that only 27 % of Germans believe FDP chairman Wolfgang Kubicki can successfully lead the party, while 56 % doubt his prospects and 17 % are undecided. Among FDP supporters, optimism is much higher, with 84 % backing Kubicki. The poll also records 38 % of AfD voters and 33 % of Union voters expecting a successful FDP under his leadership, but only 23 % of SPD voters and just 11 % each of Green and Left voters share that view.

Kubicki was elected party leader in a recent internal contest, defeating Marie‑Agnes Strack‑Zimmermann. The FDP had previously failed to clear the 5 % electoral threshold in the last federal election, causing it to lose its seats in the Bundestag.
