Wolfsburg daycare partially collapses following suspected explosion

A partial collapse occurred at the Martin-Luther-Kindertagesstätte in Wolfsburg, Germany, on a Sunday morning following a loud explosion. Approximately one-third of the building has been destroyed, leaving the site covered in debris including stones, pipes, and building components. The blast was powerful enough to shatter windows in nearby residential buildings.

No injuries were reported, as the facility was closed for the weekend. The daycare typically serves about 100 children and prepares roughly 500 meals daily. Authorities are investigating the cause, with preliminary indications suggesting a possible gas explosion. While technical defects or external causes have not been ruled out, police stated there are no indications of a deliberate attack.

Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and the Technical Relief Agency (THW), utilized search dogs to ensure no one was trapped under the rubble. The damage is estimated to be in the high six-figure range. The facility is currently unusable, and local church officials noted that the timing of the incident prevented a potential catastrophe had it occurred during a weekday.
