Wollaston Lake Airport to receive $11.6 million for infrastructure upgrades

The Government of Canada has announced an $11.6 million investment to upgrade the Wollaston Lake Airport in northern Saskatchewan. Funded through the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP), the project aims to improve accessibility, reliability, and air safety for remote communities.

The funding will be used to rehabilitate Runway 17-35, Taxiway A, and the apron. Additionally, the project includes upgrades to critical infrastructure such as the aerodrome beacon, runway lighting, wind direction indicators, and associated electrical systems. These improvements are intended to enhance operations during winter darkness and improve resilience against northern weather conditions.

Wollaston Lake Airport is a vital link for the Wollaston Lake settlement and the nearby Hatchet Lake First Nation, providing essential access to healthcare, community resupply, and economic opportunities. Rise Air currently operates six flights per week to the airport.
