Wollongong Council unveils $604 million capital works plan, includes four new pools at Coalcliff

Wollongong City Council has adopted a $604 million capital works program for 2026‑27, allocating more than $151 million to infrastructure projects. The transport package receives $43.38 million for new and upgraded car parks, bus stops, cycle paths, footpaths, bridges and related facilities. Libraries are slated for $31.31 million, funding new community centres and upgrades to existing libraries. Additional funds support arts, culture, planning, parks and sports fields, each receiving over $10 million.

Separately, a development at Coalcliff proposes four private swimming pools—one 28.8‑kilolitre pool and three 13.3‑kilolitre pools—integrated into the residential backyards. The council‑lodged environmental statement says the design respects the site’s slope, retains existing vegetation and will not affect the adjacent railway corridor. The proposal is on public exhibition until 17 July pending council approval.
