Wollongong man bailed after alleged McDonald's attack leaves victim in coma
A 20-year-old man, Baylie Hamilton, has been granted bail following an alleged unprovoked attack at a McDonald's in Wollongong. Police allege that Hamilton assaulted a stranger on Burelli Street just before 4 a.m. on August 30, an incident that reportedly left the victim in a coma.
During the court proceedings, prosecutors described the attack as serious, noting that the victim was knocked unconscious immediately and provided no threat. While the defense acknowledged the likelihood of a jail sentence if convicted, Judge Te'res Sia granted bail under strict conditions, including a curfew, tri-weekly reporting, and a no-alcohol requirement. The matter is scheduled for mention at Wollongong Local Court in September.
