Wolverhampton Wanderers reject return of Liquidator anthem

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced they will not reintroduce the reggae instrumental ‘The Liquidator’ as a matchday anthem at Molineux. The decision follows a review of the song’s history and its association with offensive and discriminatory chanting directed at rivals.

The club consulted with the Molineux Stadium Safety Advisory Group and various stakeholders before reaching the conclusion. Officials noted that the regulatory environment for football clubs has changed significantly over the last two decades. The club highlighted that it has previously been sanctioned by the Football Association regarding mass discriminatory chanting, making the reintroduction of the track inappropriate.

Executive chairman Nathan Shi stated that while the club recognizes the song’s significance to certain sections of the fanbase, the decision was made after considering the club’s responsibilities regarding supporter behavior, safety, and governance.
