Wolves terrorize residents in Hunedoara County, Romania

Residents of Cimpa, a village belonging to Petrila in Hunedoara County, are reporting frequent wolf attacks. Local inhabitants state that wolves have been seen on village streets and near homes for over a month, resulting in attacks on domestic dogs and the killing of several sheep.

Surveillance footage has captured predators moving through the locality. In response, approximately 110 residents have signed a petition requesting immediate intervention from authorities. The Mayor of Petrila, Vasile Jurcă, noted that management is complicated by current wildlife protection legislation. While local authorities can coordinate with the Police and Gendarmerie to drive animals away, capturing or shooting specimens requires a specific derogation from the Ministry of Environment. The Hunedoara Environmental Protection Agency has advised residents to document each attack by filing damage reports.
