Woman arrested for defrauding elderly woman in Cantù
A 38-year-old Polish national residing in the Novara province has been arrested for defrauding an 85-year-old woman in Cantù. The suspect allegedly contacted the victim by phone, impersonating her daughter and claiming to suffer from a serious illness that required urgent surgery.
Following the phone call, the suspect visited the victim's home and obtained gold jewelry and a watch with a total value of approximately 4,000 euros. The suspect was later intercepted by Carabinieri in Piazza Matteotti, Como, after acting suspiciously and attempting to discard a bag containing the stolen items.
The stolen goods were recovered and returned to the victim. Following a direct trial at the Court of Como, the woman was sentenced to two years of house arrest and a fine of 1,000 euros.
