Woman arrested for smuggling drugs into Ogun prison

A woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Ibara Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The suspect, identified as Iyabo Sowunmi, was intercepted during a routine screening at the facility’s main entrance.

Security personnel reportedly discovered the suspected substance, identified as ‘Colos’—a psychoactive synthetic drug—concealed inside a sachet of beverage powder. Authorities state the drugs were intended for her son, Dare Sowunmi, an inmate currently on death row at the facility.

Following the interception, Sowunmi was detained and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and potential prosecution. The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Ogun Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy regarding drug trafficking and contraband within custodial institutions.
