Woman dies after petrol attack at Ponneri Government Hospital
A woman who was set on fire with petrol at the Ponneri Government Hospital premises has died after 16 days of treatment at Kilpauk Government Hospital. The victim, Rajeshwari, was a temporary computer operator at the hospital.
The incident occurred on September 21 when the suspect, identified as Prakash, allegedly approached Rajeshwari near the hospital ramp, doused her in petrol, and set her ablaze. Police investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a dispute after Rajeshwari stopped communicating with the suspect, whom she previously knew.
Following the attack, police tracked Prakash to a location near a crematorium in Peruncheri. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly attacked a police officer with a sickle while attempting to flee, resulting in him being shot in the leg by an inspector. Following Rajeshwari's death, authorities have upgraded the charges against Prakash from attempted murder to murder.
