Woman found dead in Comayagüela as Honduras’ femicide count rises

Authorities discovered the body of an unidentified woman, estimated to be 35‑38 years old, in a narrow passage of the Perpetuo Socorro neighborhood in Comayagüela, Honduras, on Saturday morning. Neighbours reported no gunshots, shouts or other signs of a struggle. Police cordoned the area, conducted a forensic examination and are reviewing nearby security‑camera footage to identify suspects.

The killing adds to a reported tally of more than 125 women murdered in Honduras so far in 2026, highlighting the country’s escalating femicide crisis. Human‑rights groups and feminist organisations stress that domestic violence frequently precedes such lethal outcomes. Official data show a sharp increase in emergency calls and arrests related to domestic abuse, while the nation has only nine under‑resourced shelters for women. Advocates call for stronger prevention measures, better investigative capacity and expanded state support to protect women at risk.
