Woman in China recovers 1.1 million NDT after phishing scam attempt
A woman surnamed Wang in Hubei Province, China, narrowly avoided losing 1.1 million NDT (approximately 3.85 billion VND) in savings after falling victim to a phishing scam. The incident began when Wang received a message in a group chat regarding a purported cessation of household appliance subsidies by Chinese human resources and social security authorities.
Following the information, Wang clicked a link and was directed to a website that prompted her to provide sensitive personal data, including her national ID number, bank card details, and SMS verification codes. Upon checking her banking application, she discovered her fixed-term deposit was no longer visible, causing immediate panic.
Through timely reporting to the police, Officer Li Chongjun coordinated with the bank to freeze the account and halt potentially fraudulent transactions. The funds were successfully preserved due to the rapid intervention of law enforcement and banking authorities.
