Woman killed by freight train in Grayslake, Illinois

An adult female was fatally struck by a Canadian National freight train on Monday afternoon near Grayslake Central High School. The incident occurred north of Center Street in the area of North Lake Street and Hillside Avenue.

The collision caused significant disruptions to Metra commuter services, halting operations on both the North Central Service (NCS) and Milwaukee District North (MD-N) lines at the point where they intersect. Metra officials reported that trains were being turned around to provide limited service during the evening commute, with full service suspended until the freight train could be moved.

Local authorities closed several railroad crossings, including Center Street, Route 120, and Route 83, while the Lake Street crossing remained open. Emergency responders from the Grayslake Fire Protection District and Grayslake Police Department attended the scene.
