São Paulo police investigation into fatal shooting during attempted robbery

A 24-year-old woman, Maria Eduarda Santana Nascimento, died after being shot during an attempted robbery in the southern zone of São Paulo. The incident occurred on the Estrada de Itapecerica when a suspect on a motorcycle approached her vehicle.

A civil police investigator, Pedro Paulo Bassetti, intervened in the robbery attempt, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Both the victim and the suspect were hit; the suspect died at the scene, while Maria Eduarda was taken to the Campo Limpo Emergency Room, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Corregedoria-Geral da Polícia Civil has launched an inquiry to determine whether the fatal shot was fired by the police officer or the criminal. Security camera footage captured parts of the confrontation. The victim, known to friends and colleagues as ‘Duda’, was a professional in the technology and events sector.
