Women Builders of Peace networks launch in Ecuador and Venezuela
UN Women’s peacebuilding programme has established the Red de Mujeres Constructoras de Paz in Guayaquil, Ecuador, bringing together 110 women leaders to prevent violence and strengthen community cohesion. Participants received training through workshops such as "Soy Sorora" and "Nos Queremos" and are implementing projects like Karine Betancourt Martínez’s family‑integration program, which she described: “Educamos a ese padre para que se sienta con su hijo, para que dialogue y lo escuche.”
In July, the same network held a training session for 20 women leaders in the municipality of Carirubana, Falcón, Venezuela, at the Colegio de Enfermas in Punto Fijo. The event aimed to foster female leadership across political, sports, religious and educational sectors, and to promote gender‑based violence prevention and women’s rights in the country’s transition period.
