Women drive significant growth in global golf participation and industry
Women are driving significant growth within the golf industry, both in participation and market influence. In Australia, Golf Australia reports that women make up 60 per cent of new golfers and 42 per cent of all national golfers. Female registrations for the ‘Get Into Golf’ program account for 90 per cent of participants, with interest increasing by 11.6 per cent year-on-year.
To support this demographic, initiatives like Birdie Links are providing dedicated spaces for female beginners. Additionally, media platforms such as ‘The Traveling Golf Diva Podcast’ are working to amplify women's voices by connecting female golfers with resorts, brands, and industry leaders. This expansion covers various sectors, including golf travel, fashion, wellness, and instruction.
Despite the growth, some friction remains regarding the sport's culture. Recent controversy arose following an advertisement by US brands Good Good Golf and Callaway, which female golfers criticized as an inaccurate and unwelcome portrayal of golf culture.
