Women in German agriculture highlight diverse roles and ranching

In recognition of the International Year of Women in Agriculture, regional profiles highlight the diverse roles women play in the industry. In Schrozberg, Katrin Diana Humpfer and her husband Joachim operate a bison ranch on land held by their family since 1735. Having transitioned from traditional dairy farming in 2015, the farm now manages approximately 60 bison and 100 Angus cattle. The farm's primary revenue source is a biogas plant that provides heat energy to two local villages. Katrin Humpfer also works as a teacher, focusing on educating youth about modern agriculture, animal welfare, and ecological circular economies.
