Women in Kastamonu revive 600-year-old horse racing tradition
In the Daday district of Kastamonu, women have revitalized a centuries-old local tradition of horse racing. Organized by the Halime Çavuş Women's Association, the event featured participants wearing 600-year-old traditional regional attire.
The event began with a demonstration at the Emirbey Horse Farm involving Turkish flags, followed by a symbolic race along a village road. The initiative aims to preserve the historical legacy of Kastamonu weddings, where women traditionally led equestrian processions.
Şule Özbay, President of the Halime Çavuş Women's Association, stated that while the race was symbolic, the true winners were culture and women's solidarity. The association intends to continue organizing such events, particularly during national holidays, to ensure the tradition is passed down to future generations.
