Women in science recognized for leadership and STEM promotion

Scientific researchers Katherine Manjarrés and Sara García are being recognized for their contributions to STEM and their efforts to inspire future generations of women in science.

In Colombia, researcher Katherine Manjarrés placed second in the ‘Women in Science, Technology, and Innovation’ category of the 2026 Women's Leadership and Stimulus Call organized by the Medellín Mayor's Office. Out of approximately 750 participants, Manjarrés was among the top five. Her work, based in Santa Marta, involves a postdoctoral project aimed at strengthening scientific vocations among girls and young women to promote regional development.

In Spain, molecular biologist and ESA reserve astronaut Sara García will deliver a lecture to students in Santander. The event, organized by the Equality Department, aims to promote co-education and challenge sexist stereotypes. As the first Spanish woman to reach such a milestone in space exploration, García serves as a role model for leadership and scientific pursuit in the STEM fields.
