Women in South Kivu and youth in Matana hold peace and community events

In Uvira, South Kivu, the month dedicated to African Women concluded on August 28, 2026, with a large demonstration focused on peace and security. Organized by the Provincial Division of Gender, Women, Family, and Children, the event included a peaceful march from the Kavimvira roundabout to the provincial governorate's temporary headquarters.

Participants, including representatives from local and international NGOs and state officials, presented a memorandum to the Provincial Minister of Gender, Justice, and Human Rights, Faustin Mayani. The memorandum called for the restoration of peace and security in South Kivu and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, expressed support for the FARDC and Wazalendo in combating armed groups, and requested improved living conditions for the population.

In Matana, Burundi, the Association of Women and Girls for the Fight against Gender-Based Violence (AFFVBG) concluded its second edition of youth training and work camps. Over 600 youths and supervisors participated in a week of community sanitation work, sports, and cultural activities. The program provided training in human rights, citizenship, environmental protection, entrepreneurship, and leadership to encourage youth to act as ambassadors for peace and social cohesion.
